Brandon Kirk

Brandon Kirk is the owner of Planet Duct-Air Duct Cleaning. As a NADCA Certified Air-Duct Cleaning Specialist, he has extensive experience servicing air ducts in El Paso County and the Southern CO region since 2019.

At Planet Duct, it is our mission to provide out-of-this-world service for our consumers in Colorado Springs. This means that we are willing to constantly learn and improve our skills through multiple different avenues, from constant education to a wide range of certifications. One of the most influential certifications that an air duct cleaner can have is that of the National Air Duct Cleaning Association (NADCA).

The NADCA association provides two significant certifications for air duct cleaning specialists: the Air Systems Cleaning Specialist (ASCS) and the Certified Ventilation Inspector (CVI) Certification.  As an air duct cleaning company in Colorado Springs and a proud holder of both these certifications, we’d like to walk you through what each certification entails and how they add to our astronomical expertise.

Air Systems Cleaning Specialist (ASCS)

The ASCS certification requires air duct cleaning companies to fundamentally understand how HVAC systems work, and how to properly clean them while protecting the health and safety of the occupants and the building. This intensive certification demands that air duct cleaning companies have a thorough understanding of HVAC Systems and uphold the standards of quality that the NADCA instills in its practitioners. A significant aspect of this certification is understanding not just the technique required to clean air ducts, but how to do so safely and strategically. When we open up your ventilation system, there are often years of contaminants: dirt, allergens, bacteria, and even mold. As a certified air systems cleaning specialist, we know how to prepare the building, how to eradicate the problem, and how to sanitize safely and effectively so that you can breathe cleaner air. We have taken and passed the ASCS exam, and maintain our certification as a commitment to our community as the best air duct cleaning company in Colorado.

What the ASCS Certification Requires:

  • Understand how HVAC systems work and their mechanical components
  • Properly perform visual Inspections of the duct and HVAC system to identify problems and solutions
  • Understand the causes and types of contamination
  • Adhere to federal and national standards for proper HVAC cleaning safety precautions
  • Prepare and protect the building for duct cleaning
  • Use superior equipment, technique, and cleaning solutions and air duct sanitizations to clean air ducts
  • Identify and remediate mold from air ducts and ventilation systems

Certified Ventilation Inspector (CVI)

The CVI certification qualifies professionals to properly and safely inspect HVAC systems. In order to obtain the CVI, you must also hold a valid ASCS certification, so to further build upon the complex knowledge of residential and commercial ventilation systems. The CVI certification requires you to master the HVAC system, from the mechanical components and duct types, to the filtration systems and the airflow standards. With this foundation of knowledge, CVI holders can inspect HVAC systems according to federal and national standards, identify problems and contaminates, and execute solutions to achieve better air quality. As a certified ventilation inspector, our air duct cleaning company is qualified to inspect both residential and commercial HVAC systems in accordance with industry guidelines.

What the CVI Certification Requires:

  • Understand the HVAC System and its components
  • Understand airflow, pressure, & temperature of the heating and cooling systems
  • Fundamental knowledge of cleaning and restoration of HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of building safety codes and fire safety standards
  • How to perform a HVAC inspection
  • Report on and apply industry-backed solutions after inspection is complete

Who can be Certified with NADCA?

The NADCA encourages that all HVAC companies have at least the owner (or any crucial managers running the company) maintain an ASCS certification. Although, there are no limits to the number of people that can be certified. The NADCA also recommends that all HVAC personnel should pursue both certifications in order to make themselves and their company more effective.

Renewing your NADCA Certifications

It is crucial for these HVAC specialists to maintain their knowledge on a regular basis. Although the HVAC systems do not often change in design, they often change the procedure for cleaning and maintaining these complex systems. Therefore, those that are certified in ASCS will be required to recertify every year.  Those that are certified in CVI are required to renew every 3 years.

NADCA Certification Cost

Those wanting to acquire a NADCA certification will be required to join their online courses and tutor packages. These packages can range in price based on your membership status.
