Dryer Vent Cleaning Resources and FAQs

Dryer vents are one of your home appliances’ most overlooked but critical parts. Your dryer vent carries heat, moisture, lint, and dryer fumes out of your home through an exterior wall. Therefore, having a clean and unobstructed dryer vent is essential to your home’s safety and the efficiency of your clothes dryer. According to the National Fire Prevention Agency, 32% of clothes dryer fires start because of failure to clean. Though this can also include failing to empty your lint trap, dryer vents factor heavily into this number.

At Planet Duct, Colorado Springs’s leading HVAC cleaning company, we provide full-service dryer vent cleaning. We’ll clear any obstructions and sanitize your dryer vent, so you can dry your clothes quickly and with peace of mind. Check out the following FAQs and additional resources for more information on dryer vent cleaning in Colorado Springs.

Dryer vent cleaning removes dust and debris from your dryer vent so that heat and moisture can travel through the vent freely. For information on how to tell if your dryer vent is clogged, read this blog post:

Yes! Dryer vent cleaning helps your dryer work more efficiently, saving wear and tear on your machine and electricity costs. In addition to saving money, your home will be safer. Regular dryer vent cleanings reduce the risk of a home fire. Lastly, clear vents allow dust and fumes to travel outside your home rather than being trapped in your living areas.

At Planet Duct, we use a three-step process for dryer vent cleaning:

  1. Remove debris—Starting from the home’s exterior, we will feed an air hose into the dryer vent. The hose is equipped with a nozzle that blows lint and dust backward and out of the vent.
  2. Clean dryer—Using another specialized attachment, we’ll clean out your lint trap and any build-up near the dryer’s heating element.
  3. Sanitize vent—Starting inside the house, we’ll run a rod with a forward-facing nozzle back through the vent to remove any stubborn blockages. Then, we’ll sanitize your dryer area with Simple Green before putting everything back.

A dryer vent in a single-family home usually runs from the back of your clothes dryer to the nearest exterior wall. You should be able to see a vent with a metal flap where it exits your home. If you don’t see an external vent, you may have an indoor dryer vent which can be a safety hazard. In apartments or condos, the dryer vent is often located on the roof.

Dryer vents should be cleaned at least once a year for best dryer performance and safety, but depending on how much you use your dryer, you may need to clean it more frequently.

It will depend on your service provider. For a standalone dryer vent cleaning service, Planet Duct charges from $125-$150. However, some service providers will not provide dryer vent cleaning as a standalone service, so you would also need to book an air duct cleaning.

Most HVAC cleaning professionals offer dryer vent cleaning services. At Planet Duct, we offer dryer vent cleaning in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas.

You can also purchase a DIY dryer vent cleaning kit. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you choose the correct tools for your duct material; otherwise, you could damage it. DIY kits also only clean the entrance of the vent. You won’t be able to remove blockages further down the duct without professional equipment.
