Hey, good morning everyone! It’s Brandon with Planet Duct Air Duct Cleaning in Colorado Springs. I want to tell you about a video I just watched. I watched the training video for the people who sell cheap air duct cleaning equipment to carpet cleaners. I was watching the training video and there’s a lot of things wrong with it.
Air Duct Cleaning Process: What Cheap Companies Are Doing Wrong
When cheap air duct cleaners are cleaning the return side of your HVAC system, they’re not connecting any vacuum at all. They’re simply using the blower on your furnace to pull all the dirt down to the filter so that it can then be replaced or blown out with an air tool. These poorly trained air duct cleaners completely ignore the return trunk line and the return drop. That doesn’t get cleaned at all! So, when they tell you “Hey, we cleaned your system.” No, they didn’t! They didn’t get everything clean.
Cheap Air Duct Companies End Up Costing You More
Also, if the dust that they’ve stirred up makes it past that filter while that system is running, your blower will simply blow all that dust dirt and debris straight up into your AC coils. Now, your system is less efficient than it was before the poorly trained employee even started; the money you thought you saved is now going to be lost through increased energy costs since your system must work harder to heat and cool your house. So, that’s a problem!
Poorly Trained Air Duct Cleaners Sacrifice Safety
In the air duct cleaning training video, they actually tell the technicians who are cleaning to take the doors off of the furnace and put a piece of tape over the safety switch. This is so that they can keep the blower running while they are working. Then it shows the technicians actually reaching in and using an air tool to blow things off when the system is connected to power and the blower is running. That is very dangerous! At Planet Duct, that is something we don’t do. When our experienced technicians are cleaning, your blower is not running at all; in fact, we shut we shut the HVAC system off and power it down so no power can go to that furnace or the air handler. Because of this, we’re not risking electrocution and not getting our hands chopped up in that blower moving at a high rate of speed. We believe in putting safety first, so that’s a huge problem I saw with their air duct cleaning process.
Why Cheap Air Duct Cleaning Products Are Problematic
When poorly trained air duct cleaning companies are cleaning your supply vents, they are using something similar to this knockoff product that people are using. This is what they connect their 1.5” or 2” hose to try to clean your ducts out. In the video training people how to clean your ducts, they completely ignore the whole supply trunk line. I guarantee if experts on our Planet Duct team go in after a carpet cleaner and make an access into your trunk lines on your supply and return side, then you will see a video and say, “I thought they clean this thing what’s all this dust and dirt and debris. What’s all this still doing in the system?” It is because they ignored a huge part of your system. They’re in and out, they’ve got your money, and they’re gone. Unfortunately, your system is still dirty after poorly trained air duct cleaners go through your HVAC system. Of course, nobody likes to hear that they got ripped off, but you did get what you paid for.
