What if I told you that you could save on your monthly bills and hundreds of dollars on a new clothes dryer?  Rather than purchasing a new dyer consider if your dryer vents need to be cleaned. Click here to learn why you should have your dryer vents cleaned. Cleaning your dryer vent can help make your dryer run more efficiently and save you money in the long run.

At Planet Duct we want to make sure that we have assisted you to eliminate all possibilities before recommending a dryer replacement. An average dryer will cost you anywhere between $300 and $600 depending on size and who makes it. And if you want it to match your washer machine then it may limit you to an even higher amount. Our skilled technicians are trained to assess the dryer vents and discover why the dryer is not drying. Most often the dryer is not drying because there is a large blockage in the dryer vents, causing the machine to work harder than it needs to. For an educational video about why your dryer isn’t working or how dryer vents get clogged look below.

Dryer Isn’t Working

In most cases we see people throw away an old dryer and they buy a brand new high-efficiency unit, maybe one with some new bells and whistles. Unfortunately since in this scenario, the dryer vent was never cleaned and the blockage was not removed often what happens is that they will get their nice and expensive new unit installed, and, before long, the brand new dryer is doing the exact same thing as the previous one. Sometimes the case is that the fryer is not getting the clothes dry or maybe you’re getting a lint sensor that says your vent is clogged with lint. In any case, the brand new shiny dryer is not working as well.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Fortunately, this is an easy fix. Your dryer vents need to be cleaned out. Over time your dryer vents will collect lint produced in the process of drying clothes. This collected line and other random foreign objects can eventually cause a blockage in the vent. When this happens the dryer vent will no longer be able to vent its hot air. This can cause the machine to overheat, work harder to dry clothes, and even cause dangerous dryer fires.

So, before you go buy a new dryer have a NADCA certified duct cleaning technician come out and inspect your dryer vents. If your vent is clogged which in our experience is most often the case, you could have a dryer that will last you several more years saving you hundreds of dollars. Not only will you save on the new dryer purchase but also on your monthly bill if your dryer is properly ventilated.  A professional and certified dryer vent cleaner will perform an inspection of the machine/dryer vents, and blow out the vent from one end to the other, making your dryer perform like new. In some rare cases after the cleaning if your machine is worn out and old the dryer vent cleaner may advise replacement, however, this rarely happens and is usually done as a safety precaution and or because the dryer is simply too old to do the job.

Signs Your Dryer Vent Is Clogged

Lint sensor

If you have one of the nice new machines you may have a built-in lint sensor. This sensor is designed to warn you when there is an excess amount of lent in the machine or in the vents. This is important to pay attention to because it can prevent a fire or damage to your machine.

Excessive Lint

If there is an excessive amount of lint surrounding your dryer the dryer vents or even in the lent tray it may be time to have your vents cleaned. When the lint has no place to escape out of the vents it will spill onto the floor or worse into the machine.

Overheating

If there is too much lint backing up into the dryer it can very quickly and easily overheat. If you notice your dryer smelling or overheating make sure to turn it off and check your dryer vents for blockages.

Shuts off Unexpectedly

Some of the newer dryers will have an emergency shut off. This utilizes sensors that monitor the unit’s temperature and humidity and is a fail-safe. If the dryer gets too hot it will shut off automatically to reduce the chance of a dryer fire.

Requires Multiple Cycles

If you are always having to dryer your clothes more than once it is most likely because your dryer does not have the proper ventilation and it is overheating. When the dryer overheats it can not dry your clothes properly.

Long Dry Times

Similar to having to redry your clothes if you are trying to dry just a few items and it takes forever this is most likely because the dryer is overheating.

Educational Video

As a dryer vent cleaning company in Colorado Springs, we’re finding that a lot of people are going out and binding buying brand new clothes dryers because they think: “My old dryer is inefficient; it doesn’t work anymore; it is taking longer for my clothes to dry; I have to dry my clothes three times to get them dry.”
